The "Founder’s Shadow": Transitioning from Control to Coaching

The very traits that make a founder successful, like grit, singular vision, and total control, can become the biggest obstacles during a transition. This is the "Founder’s Shadow." To move forward, the senior generation must shift their identity from Commander to Coach.

This transition isn't about "stepping away" and disappearing; it’s about changing the nature of your contribution. Instead of making the final call on a marketing budget, the Coach asks the successor, "What data led you to this choice?" This allows the founder to protect the legacy while giving the next generation the "muscle memory" they need to lead.
